Out to Lunch
By Joanne McDowell
Okay everyone; I almost hate to give this one up as every
time we go there we wait in a long line-but then again it may be all of you in
that line!
Yesterday I had a perch craving around 2:30p.m. so we
headed for Jolly Roger on East
Perry Street in Port Clinton. Thinking it was the perfect time to go and
not get caught in a stampede, we arrived around 3p.m., to a crowd!
For those of you who are not perch eaters, there are also
a variety of sandwiches, walleye, Snow Scrod, chicken, turkey and chicken salad,
as well as various sandwich platters. There are Perch-n-Chips and all the above
with chips, plus fresh fish dinners. Ala Carte favorites include peel-n-eat
shrimp, deep fried shrimp and oysters.
There is a display board with daily special which
included clam chowder and lobster bisque.
We especially love the homemade onion rings as a side,
and the fries are also tasty. I am not a fan of the Cole slaw, so I never order
the platter. If you are a big perch eater, there is a pound platter for
$15.69.
For two of us, two perch sandwiches ($5.99 each), a fry,
an onion ring and two drinks, the total was right at twenty dollars. I always get the Sun Tea and refills are free
on drinks. (A Golden Buckeye card will
get you 10% off.)
If traveling with kids, there is a “Just For Kids!” menu
that includes chicken strips, hot dogs and fish and fries, prices are $2.99 per
order.
"Catch Your Own Walleye", bring it in cleaned and they
will fix it, along with a complete dinner, for $6.59. Not a bad deal!
The to-go menu says, “The Best Little Fish House Around”,
I agree, but get there early as summer is coming and the tourists have already
discovered this place!
Until next month, love much, live well and eat
hearty!
