One More Gift
One
More Gift
by
Joanne Kosta, RN
I could always count on Rosanne to be generous. She had empathy for causes and concerns
outside of herself. She really didn’t
know how to help our other sister with mental illness but she was quick to
respond in any way that she could. When
she died four years ago, we suggested two memorial gift beneficiaries. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness),
because we knew of her love for my other sister and her wish to help, and SJCC
(the high school she graduated from so they could use it for scholarships). The school received a nice gift and we were
able to give over a $1000 to NAMI because the option was available to
people.

Do You Have High Blood Pressure?
Do
You Have High
Blood Pressure?
Question: Dear Dr. Snodgrass,
I recently found out that I have high blood pressure. My family doctor said
that if I can't lower it soon, I would have to take blood pressure medicine. A
friend of mine said that her chiropractor helped to get her blood pressure
under control. Could you please explain how chiropractic could help high blood
pressure?

The Big Ego
Wellness Corner: The Big Ego
by Joanne Kosta, RN
A NEW EARTH by Eckhart Tolle is a book that came crashing into my life recently. In some ways it feels like freezing cold water splashed on my face. Let me share some of the things I am learning.
· My EGO wants to run everything: It creates (and sticks to) a story about how life “should” be. It thrives on the hurt that occurs and creates stories around each of these. It takes offense at others frequently. It wants to rule my life and tells me that I should never “settle” for less than I deserve.

Wellness Corner: The Good Enough Club by Joanne Kosta, RN
I arrived in college in 1977 complete with a great sense of humor, poor study skills, moderate amount of intelligence, and some very hard classes. I spent hours….sometimes all-nighters, studying in hopes of passing freshman year. I knew that I probably had enough brains to conquer the material, but my time management skills were horrid. I had elementary study habits, and page after page of dry information to remember. But, I really wanted to be a nurse. So, I drank more coffee, spent 36 hours straight preparing for the “do or die” exam, and went home for Christmas with a “D in Chemistry” and no clue whether I had done well enough on the final to continue on in school.

Wellness Corner: Lambs and Leadership
Wellness Corner:
Lambs and Leadership by Joanne Kosta, RN
We have six little baby lambs and a few tired mothers. They are darling and also interesting to observe. We refer to and read about lambs as followers but the truth is—it only takes one to start the action. When one takes off to run, scatter, or frolic—the others quickly follow. The grown up sheep do the same. Especially when it comes to something that scares them. You would be wise to move out of their way or risk being trampled by the herd of sheep energy that is taking off.
