Captain Jack Zimmerman: Legendary Pilot of TWA
By Nan Card, Hayes Center
Under the cover of darkness, TWA mystery “Flight No. 7” winged its way north from New Orleans. On board was FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover; a “small army of heavily armed G-men; and Alvin Karpis, America’s “ Public Enemy No. 1.” With submachine guns at the ready, the G-men were transporting Karpis to St. Paul, Minnesota to stand trial on kidnapping charges. On that spring night in 1936, TWA’s chief pilot Jack Zimmerman was at the controls of the 14-passenger Douglas. It was the first of many secret charters Zimmerman would fly for the FBI.

The Big Ego
Wellness Corner: The Big Ego
by Joanne Kosta, RN
A NEW EARTH by Eckhart Tolle is a book that came crashing into my life recently. In some ways it feels like freezing cold water splashed on my face. Let me share some of the things I am learning.
· My EGO wants to run everything: It creates (and sticks to) a story about how life “should” be. It thrives on the hurt that occurs and creates stories around each of these. It takes offense at others frequently. It wants to rule my life and tells me that I should never “settle” for less than I deserve.

Wolfgang Puck's Kitchen: Keeping Boneless Chicken Breasts Moist and Flavorful

Even the most creative, artistic chef's creation usually happens for a smart culinary reason. One of the best examples I know of that fact is a chicken breast recipe I developed when I first opened Spago on Hollywood's Sunset Strip back in 1982, a dish that still holds up and tastes just as fresh and delicious today.

Healthy Living
Wellness Corner: The Good Enough Club by Joanne Kosta, RN
I arrived in college in 1977 complete with a great sense of humor, poor study skills, moderate amount of intelligence, and some very hard classes. I spent hours….sometimes all-nighters, studying in hopes of passing freshman year. I knew that I probably had enough brains to conquer the material, but my time management skills were horrid. I had elementary study habits, and page after page of dry information to remember. But, I really wanted to be a nurse. So, I drank more coffee, spent 36 hours straight preparing for the “do or die” exam, and went home for Christmas with a “D in Chemistry” and no clue whether I had done well enough on the final to continue on in school.

Life as a Temptation
By Helen Marketti
"Motown music was the primary influence for me. There was extraordinary presentation. You could look at them (The Temptations) and see they were unlike any other group. The way they appeared, performed and sang influenced me the most." Sharing his thoughts about the singing group he idolized as a teenager Damon Harris would later find himself right in the midst of their presence as he became a "second generation" member of the group replacing his vocal hero, Eddie Kendricks.
Eddie Kendricks, Damon sang the falsetto highs that matched Eddie's. He perfected the sound of his idol during his high school days so much so that others would comment on how much they sounded alike. "To me Eddie was the total package. First of all he had a lot of attention from the women," Damon laughs. "His sound, his manner on stage and his charisma was very compelling."
